Mother’s Ruin hits different in 2026.
Less the gin and more the ruinous WhatsApp groups.
Makes you dizzy, doesn’t it? Reading all the group chats:
“Is it PE today? Does Dotty need her trainers?”
“Has anyone heard from Granny today? She’s not answering her phone.”
“Can you have the report to me by Monday please? Actually, can we make that 4pm today.”
“Seriously, where’s Granny?”
“Year 8 have Home Economics today? Thought that was tomorrow! Can someone send extra ingredients, so Freddy doesn’t get into trouble again.”
“Where are you? I thought we were meeting for coffee today but you’re not here!”
It’s constant: school groups, parent groups, mum groups, family groups, work groups, friend groups. It’s a stream of noise and interference filling our heads with information we don’t really need, and other people’s problems we really don’t want to know about. Very little of it benefits us – and most of it we didn’t ask for.
A cacophony of chaos.
It feels like we are constantly on the receiving end of a hundred dodge balls being thrown at us, and yet every now and again it isn’t a ball hurtling towards us, more like a priceless faberge egg that we absolutely CANNOT drop. As much as we try to ignore the balls and focus on just the faberges, it’s too hard. Too much. Too overwhelming.
The intensity of modern communication leaves our heads spinning as we try desperately to keep them above the water line. We feel inadequate if we step back and admit we can’t cope, and overstimulated if we totally engage. We are spinning plates whilst simultaneously pulling rabbits out of hats – all whilst being scrutinised by the world around us and found wanting. Not quick enough to respond, or maybe too quick. Not good enough to know the answers – or perhaps judged for knowing. And we just aren’t en pointe enough to remember how and when to stop the plates from spinning. Our minds are overloaded – and so is our nervous system. Constantly on high alert, anxious, unable to relax, spiralling and exhausted.
If you’ve read this far I expect it’s because this is how you feel – and I want you to know that you aren’t alone – and you can change it.
The Reset Project is a coaching package designed specifically for you – a 6 session series that gives you the space you need to breathe, take stock, and truly focus on what actually matters to you, whilst seeking the permission you need to give yourself to let go of what isn’t.
